Why Donate To The Military Order Of The Purple Heart?

Founded over 70 years ago by Congress, The Military Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH) is a national military veterans organization. It is also sometimes just called Purple Heart for the sake of brevity. The Purple Heart organization is especially suited for the needs of veterans and funds welfare, rehabilitation and educational programs. The Purple Heart also offers suport for veteran´s families.

The funding for these causes comes mostly from the sale of items donated to the organization, including cars, household items and clothing.

What is the Purple Heart?

Before getting into the details of why and how you should donate, lets look at what exactly is the Purple Heart.

Anyone that is wounded or killed while on active duty is awared the The Purple Heart.  It is a military decoration awarded in the name of the President of the United States. The Purple Heart was first awarded on April 5, 1917.

The Purple Heart was first established by George Washington and was originally named the Badge of Military Merit.

The Purple Heart medals being awarded today are part of the 500000 medals done for WW II but that were never used.

One of the differences between The Purple Heart and other medals is that no recommendation is needed for the Purple Heart,  You are automaticaly eligible for a Purple Heart medal if you are ounded or killed while on active duty.

Examples of two famous people that received the Purple Heart medal are Charles Bronson and Oliver Stone.

Why donate to the Purple Heart?

One of the benefits of donating to the Purple Heart is the tax deductible nature of the donations. You can probably get a larger tax deduction than you otherwise would have received if you decided to sell items.  All while avoiding the hassles associated with selling your stuff. One of the more popular items to donate junk cars, household items, and used clothing.

Along with helping veterans and their families, you are also getting a tax benefit by donating to the Purple Heart.

How to go about donating to the Purple Heart

You can donate usable clothing to the Purple Heart, household items and cars to the Purple Heart. The Purple Heart organization has a service that picks these items up at your house with no cost to you. The Purple Heart only accepts items in usable condition as donation.

For car donations, you can fill out an online form or call the Purple Hearts toll free number to arrange for a pickup.  Again, at no cost to you. After contacting the Purple Heart, a towing company will get in contact with you to arrange for removal of the car. For income tax purposes The Purple Heart organization will send you a tax deductible donation receipt once your car is received.

The Purple Heart has received donoations of more than 500 thousand cars!

You can also donate a car to charity instead of the Purple Heart.
